Kontron announces strategic partnership with Wibu-Systems for augmented IoT security
Kontron, a leading provider of Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), announces a multi-year partnership with Wibu-Systems, an innovative security technology leader in the global software licensing market. As a result of the technological and business framework agreement, Kontron customers will benefit from augmented security and new monetization opportunities for their IoT products.
Embedded security is critical for successful IoT deployments. With this partnership, Kontron will offer comprehensive end-to-end security for the lifecyle of its products and create a trusted environment for its customers. With its flagship CodeMeter® all-in-one security platform, Wibu-Systems creates secured code and licenses that are bound to a secure element, and facilitates new scalable business patterns that integrate seamlessly into existing back office processes, such as ERP, CRM and e-commerce platforms.
Oliver Winzenried, CEO and founder of Wibu-Systems, states “I am thrilled by the decision of Kontron’s management to anticipate emerging customer and market need to match the hyperconnected world we are creating. The integration of CodeMeter ASIC in all their new boards will make them IoT-ready and inherently protected against counterfeiting, reverse engineering, and tampering, and multiply the revenue streams for their customers. Kontron’s clients will automatically receive augmented boards that feature cutting edge security functionality, enable new business models, such as app stores and after sales concepts, and provide lean usage tracking systems. A clear advantage for the Industrial Renaissance we are living in.”
“Every Kontron product designed from now on will come embedded with a Wibu-Systems security chip and offer the complete protection and licensing capabilities of CodeMeter. The integration of such a powerful technology will create a highly secure environment for our customers: the physical tampering of the ECT or the removal of the secure element will become impossible without affecting the machine that hosts it; additionally Kontron is investing heavily in cutting edge security techniques that will keep our clients secure from security exploits”, explains Jens Wiegand, Kontron’s CTO. “IoT products are increasingly burdened by the onslaught of sophisticated cyber-attacks. With rising connectivity in today’s ECT products, assets and data, the protection of end points has become paramount.”
