Hannover Messe 2015: Wibu-Systems presents a collaborative project to support secure Industry 4.0
The demonstration we are introducing at the Hannover Messe shows how manufacturers can protect their production data in the age of Industry 4.0. This model was first presented at the German IT Summit 2014 as the collaborative result of four German companies united by a single purpose: Bringing security “Made in Germany” to Industry 4.0. Visitors to Wibu-Systems’ exhibit at the Hannover Messe can see live for the first time the demonstration in action. In hall 8, booth D05, they can learn how secure communications can be set up for the manufacturing of individual components across remote sites.
Upon plugging a software protection dongle, CmStick, in a tablet, the production process is launched at the first site; the secure transmission of data ensures that the components produced are fully compliant with initial specifications. The CmStick serves both as an authentication medium and a protection vessel for the integrity of production data against depredation and tampering. Only authorized personnel can start the production process unaffected by outer cyber-attacks.
This demonstration encompasses the joint development of the partners: the data network is supplied by Deutsche Telekom, the routers are from Hirschmann, the security controllers embedded inside the CmSticks as well as the Trusted Platform Modules in the routers come from Infineon Technologies.
Oliver Winzenried, CEO and Founder of Wibu-Systems, explains: “Data security is a priority for the success of Industry 4.0. The recent cyber-attacks have shown how paramount sophisticated concepts are in the safeguard of product know-how from tampering. Our demonstrator shows manufacturers a secure end-to-end communication, developed by Germany's leading industrial vendors. The goal of this cooperation is to offer small and medium enterprises a practical approach to intelligent interconnected production.”
