CodeMeter’s good standing in the field
CodeMeter is the premier choice for all mainstream industrial environments and has already been integrated by world-leading vendors of automation, PLC, and vision control solutions, including 3S-Smart Software Solutions ith their CODESYS development environment, ABB with their Automation Builder, B&R with their Automation Studio development environment, COPA-DATA with their Zenon software platform, Danieli Automation, Festo, KEB with their industrial automation technology, KEBA with their industrial automation solutions, MVTec with their MERLIC and HALCON machine vision software, Phoenix Contact with their PLCnext industrial automation solution, Pilz, Rockwell Automation with their Studio 5000 Logix Designer development environment for Allen Bradley Logix family controllers, and Siemens with their Totally Integrated Automation Portal (TIA Portal). Your use case should be the next success story!
Wibu-Systems’ highlights of this year
Wibu-Systems’ CodeMeter technology has firmly established itself on the industrial shop floor with a complete array of solutions for protecting the digital IP associated with software, firmware, and sensitive data from counterfeiting, reverse engineering, and tampering.
Here are the focal points for this edition of SPS – Smart Production Solutions:
CmCloud – Your ultimate solution for licensing in the cloud
For decades, software licensing has been associated with hardware and software-based solutions. As cloud services are surging to new levels of popularity thanks to the unparalleled mobility and device independence they provide, it has become a foregone conclusion that cloud licensing will represent the future of this industry. CodeMeter Cloud provides extreme security, utmost scalability, high performance, complete interoperability, and maximum flexibility all at once. You can then decide on a project-by-project or a customer-by-customer basis whether hardware, software, or cloud license containers are the best choice. Whatever you choose, you should deploy your licenses via CodeMeter License Central, our cloud-based license and entitlement management solution.
IP Protection – Multiple avenues to keep your intellectual property safe
We have spent three decades on a mission to keep the technical know-how of software publishers and intelligent device manufacturers safeguarded from piracy and cyber-attacks. The first touch point with IP protection comes in the form of CodeMeter Protection Suite, a toolbox with cutting-edge encryption methods specifically created for Windows, Linux, Android, macOS, .NET, Java, and the embedded world. Furthermore, we have developed a number of CodeMeter-based solutions made specifically for 3S-Smart Software Solutions, Rockwell Automation, and Siemens that allow the users of CODESYS, Studio 5000 Logix Designer, or the TIA Portal to protect sensitive code (source protection) and the runtime in their controllers (execution protection), while enjoying all the benefits of complete license lifecycle management.
CodeMeter Dongles – Industry grade hardware secure elements
When you opt for a hardware secure element, you should make sure that you check the technical specifications – not all dongles are born equal. The extremely versatile range of CodeMeter Dongles includes variants whose design and components are carefully crafted and selected to operate in rugged environments. Additionally, the industry-grade flash memory that is embedded in some CmDongle models can be partitioned, each with custom features: data saved in the encrypted partition are truly protected, even when the flash memory blocks are analyzed.
CodeMeter Certificate Vault – The token provider compliant with PKCS#11, CNG, and OpenSSL
Let’s imagine a network where several machines communicate using the OPC UA standard: you want to be sure that the operator exchanges data with a specific machine and that machines are able to identify each other with utmost precision in an M2M context. Digital certificates are ideal for realizing strong authentication of machines and individuals. When associated with hardware secure elements, the private key is stored securely and all the encryption operations can occur in the smart card chip on board of the CodeMeter dongle. That's the value of CodeMeter Vault in a nutshell.
The most coveted European prize in the automation industry is awarded each year at SPS – Smart Production Solutions. The jury, consisting of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Oliver Riedel from the University of Stuttgart, Peter Frueauf in representation of representing the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), and Michael Corban, editor-in-chief of the trade magazine elektro AUTOMATION, have selected a total of 10 products out of the 22 applications received. Visitors of the trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany, voted for their favorites from the Top- 5 nominees in the categories Control Technology & System Solutions and Standard Components & Sensors. CodeMeter Certificate Vault Wibu-Systems‘ solution to roll out secure certificates automatically, came in as a strong runner-up, proving the need for a secure way to identify people and machines in the digital age.
To learn more about CodeMeter Certificate Vault, join Ruediger Kuegler, our VP Sales and Security Expert, on Tuesday, 26 November, at the Forum in Hall 3, from 9.20 am to 9.40 am. He will stress out how storing PKCS#11 certificates and digital keys in unencrypted or password-protected files puts PLCs and embedded systems at risk and how, with cutting edge encryption and hardware-based KSP, CodeMeter Certificate Vault meets DRM and strong authentication purposes at once.
CodeMeter Embedded and CodeMeter µEmbedded – Special variants for special cases
Unlike the business world, the industrial realm combines regular platforms like Windows, Linux, and macOS with more exotic operating systems and architectures, such as Android, QNX, VxWorks, or ARM, x86, and PowerPC. Or you may go to even more extremes and work directly with microcontrollers and FPGAs. Still, you should not compromise on security! The footprint of CodeMeter Embedded and CodeMeter µEmbedded is much smaller than regular CodeMeter Runtime, but these flavors still provide all the core security functionalities and are fully compatible with CodeMeter License Central, so you can create, manage, and distribute your licenses comfortably and via your current back office systems.
Offline CodeMeter License Updates – Pushing updates without any Internet access
PLC vendors have been extremely vocal about this functionality, which is now available to all CodeMeter users. Oftentimes, PLCs are not connected to the Internet even when they are networked, which makes updating a license quite cumbersome. With the latest release of CodeMeter License Central, license updates can be assigned to the container coupled with a unique PLC. The operator will simply have to log in to the license portal from a computer that has Internet access, download the license to a storage medium, and transfer it to the PLC. This simple, but significant enhancement makes the life of PLC users easier, while increasing monetization opportunities for PLC vendors.
