The automotive industry is definitely one of the most active segments on the scene to benefit from continuous connectivity with the surrounding environment and the cloud. The increasing electrification of the powertrain and the evolution towards autonomous driving will permanently change the E/E (electric/electronic) architecture in vehicles as we know it and, with it, the related software architecture. The added use of artificial intelligence (AI) and service-oriented approaches comes with a major impact on software programming, validation, and verification processes, making static software a concept of the past and dynamic software the new frontier.

The German WEKA media group, in association with the University of Applied Sciences of Landshut, is organizing the Automotive Software Congress as a one-day, fully immersive educational event that covers the entire development cycle of ECU (electronic control unit) software in automobiles, touching upon major topics like the adaptive platform AUTOSAR, autonomous driving and driver assistance systems, V2X (Vehicle to Everything) technology in connection with Big Data and cloud platforms, in-vehicle software-based services, Service-oriented Architectures (SoA), electromobility, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning in the automotive software environment, functional security and data security, and agile software development.

With his lecture When a Secret Needs to Stay Secret, to be held at 4.30 pm, Guenther Fischer, Wibu-Systems Senior Consultant, Licensing and Protection, will lay out a new way of designing cross-platform hardware and software solutions for safety and security in the automotive industry, while also redesigning the entire path to software monetization. As smart card chips and TPMs are becoming the indispensable secure elements to prevent software manipulation and keep software, firmware, and sensitive data secure at all times, creativity is the only limit when it comes to re-imagining the business cycle with software licensing models like pay-per-use, subscriptions, or features-on-demand: what if you could, for instance, increase engine power over the weekend via a temporary license and throttle it back down to a more settled performance level for urban areas for the working day commute?

CodeMeter, the secure licensing technology from Wibu-Systems, can unpack a set of functional security and business capabilities for carmakers and automotive service vendors, from security by default to commercial growth by design.
