Internet of Things - from Sensors to the Cloud
Organized by WEKA Fachverlag, one of Germany’s premier media groups specialized in pioneering technologies, this conference will take place virtually this year. It will cover all of the topics that matter in the Internet of Things and in the industrial IoT realm in particular, with special emphasis on interfaces, data analysis, data security, IoT platforms, and use cases applicable both in greenfield and brownfield environments. The event stretches across two days for a fully immersive experience that will take its attendees along for a journey of discovery through the most critical stages of the digital transformation in today’s manufacturing landscape.
Guenther Fischer, Wibu-Systems’ Senior Consultant, Licensing and Protection, will be on stage on 21 October, 9.30 to 10.00 am, with his talk on Digital Certificates – A matter of trust. In today’s age, digital certificates are a great means to identify devices reliably. Unlike passwords that can be stolen on purpose or shared by accident, digital certificates are much stronger in terms of security. The process is straightforward: Every connected device is associated with a key pair, consisting of a secret private and a public key. A central entity (Certificate Authority) issues a certificate to confirm that the specific public key is assigned to this device. Only with this in place can a cryptographic operation be performed with the private key and validated with the public key from the certificate, whose validity is also checked. It used to be that the distribution of certificates was a process so complex that it prevented the widespread take-up of this technique. Getting it efficiently integrated into established backend systems greatly simplifies the creation and rollout of certificates. With CodeMeter Certificate Vault, you can ultimately manage digital certificates with little effort and high security, not least in conjunction with the OPC UA protocol.
